Anorectal Department

Brief Introduction

As one of the earliest-established departments of our hospital, the Anorectal Department was founded in 1957 by Professor Cao Jixun, a top-ten famous doctor in Sichuan province. Our department has gradually developed and expanded through great efforts. It is a key medical specialty and discipline of Sichuan Province, National key specialty and discipline during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period. After several generations of efforts, our department has become a famous national clinical, teaching and scientific research base, and a national clinical pharmacological (GCP) base. It is one of the five national and regional TCM centers - anorectal disease prevention and treatment center in southwest and northwest, and one of the eight specialized quality control centers of TCM in Sichuan province - medical quality control center for TCM anorectal diseases in Sichuan Province. Our department receives a large number of serious anal critical patients nationwide, and have great academic influence in the country. Besides, we won the honorary title of "Best Clinical Specialty in TCM Hospitals" for two consecutive years (2018, 2019) with excellent clinical service.

Our department has a total of 52 staff, including 1 expert enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, and 2 second batch Top-10 TCM doctors of Sichuan province. There are 22 doctors, 4 chief physicians, 9 associate chief physicians, and 9 attending doctors, including 2 doctors and 15 masters. We have 2 part-time doctoral tutors and 11 master tutors. They have trained more than 400 graduates from all over the country.

We have 4 general clinics, 1 expert clinic and 1 special disease (constipation) clinic. More than 35000 outpatients are examined and treated every year. We have 4 anorectal operation rooms, and treat more than 5100 inpatients every year which ranks first place in Sichuan province. We are good at treating diseases like annular mixed hemorrhoids, high complex anal fistula, high perianal abscess, infant anal fistula, high rectal polyp, anal malformation, rectovaginal fistula, third degree rectal prolapse, presacral cyst, congenital anorectal, outlet obstructive constipation, rectal cancer, etc.

Dominant Diseases & Diagnosis and Treatment Technology

We pursue minimally invasive operation with less pain and rapid recovery. 

1. Mixed hemorrhoids

Classic modified external dissection and internal ligation. In recent years, PPH, TST, RPH and other minimally invasive surgical methods have been vigorously carried out, which greatly reduce the postoperative pain and improve the comfort of patients.

2. Perianal abscess and anal fistula

We carry out small incision surgeries with little pain and high cure rate, such as primary radical surgery for perianal abscess, multi incision thread-drawing drainage for high perianal abscess, tube drainage for deep abscess, incision drainage for anal fistula, multi incision thread-drawing drainage for complex anal fistula, etc. Those operating methods can fully protect the anal muscle morphology, and the one-time cure rate is up to 99.5%.

3. Rectal prolapse and rectal mucosal intussusception

The classic double layer injection treatment for rectal prolapse can make some patients avoid surgical treatment, and its curative effect is exact.

4. Perianal necrotizing fasciitis

It is one of the critical and severe cases, and the mortality rate is much higher if not being treated timely and effectively. We have established a set of multidisciplinary cooperation mode, and the cure rate of perianal necrotizing fasciitis has reached a high level.

5. Intestinal diseases, obstructive constipation, colitis, rectal polyps, etc

We have carried out the resection under direct vision for outlet obstructive constipation and rectal polyp, and the curative effect is exact. TCM plays an obvious advantage in the diagnosis and treatment of intestinal diseases, and the therapeutic effect is remarkable.

6. Characteristic TCM treatment

We carry out painless, comfortable healing projects after anorectal surgery such as sedation and analgesia by ear needles, moxibustion, acupoint injection for dyuria, TCM steam-wash, fuming and steaming to reduce postoperative pain and promote healing, acupoint massage to regulate the emotions, scrapping, cupping to detox, etc.

7. Yaoshu (DU 2) acupoint anesthesia

It is a special and unique anesthesia method with remarkable efficacy and is widely used.
