Rehabilitation Department

The Department of Rehabilitation sticks to the TCM principles of "Nature and human are corresponded to each other, body and spirit should be maintained simultaneously” and the modern rehabilitation concept of “active participation in rehabilitation other than passive acceptance". We follow the aim of “Everyone should enjoy quality rehabilitation services" and complies with the basic TCM principles of holistic rehabilitation, syndrome differentiation and rehabilitation, functional rehabilitation, comprehensive rehabilitation and rehabilitation prevention. Our department is authorized to award master’s degree on sports medicine as a department of clinical medicine school, and recruits postgraduates on sports medicine and rehabilitation medicine. There are sub-specialties such as sports rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, TCM rehabilitation, nursing rehabilitation, and sub-health recuperation. We adopt integrative medicine for each sub-specialty disease of different stages based on syndrome differentiation, with unique characteristics and significant efficacy.

Giving full play to TCM, our department takes sports medicine and rehabilitation medicine as the main development direction, and introduces sports rehabilitation with full efforts. We advocate the combination of passive rehabilitation and active rehabilitation training, TCM therapy and exercise therapy, and take the cutting-edge advantages of sports rehabilitation, so as to promote the development of sports rehabilitation and gradually make it a brand. Our department implements the “3+n” development model in disease prevention and treatment, and develops five stable research directions: sports rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation, TCM rehabilitation and nursing rehabilitation.

Our medical team includes multiple subspecialty professionals and diverse and unique treatment plan is adopted for multiple diseases. Dr. Jin Song, the director of our department, has applied for approval to award master’s degree on sports medicine, and trained nearly 100 graduate students including students receiving standardized training. We have invited professor Li Guoping, chairman of the Asian Sports Medicine Federation and the chief medical officer of the Chinese Olympic Committee as our consultant in sports medicine and rehabilitation medicine. There is a total of 25 medical staff in our department, including 2 senior titles, 1 associate senior title, 10 intermediate titles, 2 master tutors, 5 doctors, 5 masters, and 6 doctors for treatment, gradually forming a reasonable structure of talents team.

Academic development

The Department now undertakes the following academic construction tasks: TCM key Specialty (special disease) of Sichuan, Li’s Pestle Needle Inheritance Studio of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We are the chairman of Integrative Medicine and Sports Medicine Branch of Sichuan Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Rehabilitation Committee of Sichuan Association of Chinese Medicine, and Pestle Needle Committee of Sichuan Association of Chinese Medicine; we are also the leading unit of Sichuan TCM Rehabilitation Alliance, the Teaching and Research Practice Base for Sports Graduates of Sichuan University, the sports rehabilitation department designated by Sichuan Judo Association and Football Association, the construction unit of acupuncture clinical research center of Chengdu University of TCM, and the rehabilitation ward of Sichuan acupuncture clinical medical research center.

Characteristic therapy

1. Sports rehabilitation: It refers to a series of specific rehabilitation exercises that involve patients, based on patients’ pre-existing treatment and functional status after disease or trauma and before restoring normal life (including the period after trauma treatment and before the recovery of the athletic ability). It is suitable for making exercise program for common people or patients with acute injuries of articular surfaces, cartilage and ligaments, degenerative changes of various joints, and motor system functional movement disorders caused by motor system injuries.

2. Triple facilitation therapy: Treat the patients of various types of trauma mainly by their active function exercise assisted with relaxation techniques and pestle therapy under the guidance of rehabilitation physicians. It is adopted for degenerative changes of various joints, various functional movement disorders of the motor system caused by acute and chronic sports injuries, postoperative rehabilitation of various fractures, various soft tissue and nerve sports trauma, various pains, various chronic diseases rehabilitation, etc.

3. Featured rehabilitation techniques: It includes joint mobilization, stretching techniques, PNF, Bobath, Brunnstrom, etc. It is adapted for various acute and chronic injuries and motor system functional activity disorders caused by degenerative changes, nervous system trauma diseases etc.

4. Featured pestle needle therapy: This therapy is inherited from the famous TCM doctor Li Zhongyu, former executive director of China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, former chairman of Sichuan Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. It is a unique treatment method developed over Li’s years’ of research, including Qiyaohunyuan Pestle, Wuxingsantai Pestle, Jingang Pestle and Kuixing Pen. Indications: various motor system diseases, nervous system diseases, various pains, insomnia, weight loss, sub-health conditioning, etc.

5. Modern rehabilitation therapy: We have many equipments for modern rehabilitation and physical therapy, including three-dimensional gait analyzer, biofeedback device, upper and lower limb CPM exercise training device, intelligent voice training system, swallowing function therapy device, electric rising bed, infrared radiation therapy device, shock wave, ultrasonic physical therapy device, magnetic resonance thermal therapy device, low frequency therapy device, ultrashort wave therapy device, infrared radiation therapy device, cervical vertebra traction device, lumbar vertebra traction device, air wave pressure therapy device, job training cabinet, Isokinetic Therapy Apparatus, etc. It is proper for joint system diseases, nerve system diseases, internal diseases, etc.
