Ophthalmology Department

Brief Introduction

The Department of Ophthalmology was established in 1956 by Professor Chen Dafu, a national famous TCM ophthalmologist. For 60 years, we have followed the guideline of "highlighting TCM characteristics, establishing a high-level western medicine platform, and improving clinical efficacy". Thus, we give full play to TCM and adopt the advanced diagnosis and treatment technology of modern medicine to forge ahead. Our department enjoys a great influence in the teaching, scientific research and clinical service of TCM ophthalmology.

We have a technical team with 45 medical staff. We have 15 chief physicians (professors), 5 associate chief physicians (associate professors). Among them, there are 1 national TCM master, 6 experts enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, 7 famous TCM physicians in Sichuan province, 3 tutors for inheriting the academic experience of the national famous TCM physician, 2 tutors for inheriting the academic experience of the famous TCM physician in Sichuan province, 4 academic and technical leaders in Sichuan province, 2 experts with outstanding contributions in Sichuan province, 1 third batch “Top-10 TCM Doctor” in Sichuan province, 1 first batch “Top-10 TCM Doctor” in Sichuan province, 2 excellent TCM physicians in Sichuan province, 1 excellent young and middle-aged TCM physician in Sichuan province. We enjoy a number of academic titles in national and provincial academic societies.

Dominant Diseases

We have a variety of advanced large-scale medical and scientific research equipments valuing more than 40 million, and carry out various operations of ophthalmology. In recent years, we have 85000 outpatients and 3400 inpatients on average every year, and the number of annual operation is up to 3000 person-time, so the utilization rate of large equipment is increasing year by year. We treat fundus diseases, glaucoma, cataract, ocular surface and lacrimal duct diseases, myopia, asthenopia and carry out optometry. We take the lead in the inspection, treatment and diagnosis of fundus diseases.
