Otolaryngology Department

Established in 1973 by Professor Xiong Dajing, a famous TCM otolaryngologist, our department is one of the earliest funded departments in China. It has developed into a department incorporating clinical service, teaching and scientific research. Otorhinolaryngology is a key discipline of the Ministry of Education and a key specialty of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We are authorized to award doctor’s and master's degree. At present, we have 68 beds, with more than 140000 outpatients per year, more than 3000 inpatients per year, and 2500 operations per year. There are 9 professors / chief doctors and 10 associate professors / associate chief doctors, including 4 doctoral tutors and 8 master supervisors. We have 5 chairman or vice-chairman in academic associations of or above provincial level.

We have advanced machines and equipments for examination and surgery, such as auditory brainstem response, videonystagmography, full HD nasal endoscopic system, strobe laryngoscope, voice acoustic analysis, microscope, etc.

Our department is famous for traditional Chinese medicine. Two Chinese patent medicines we made "Biyuanshu Oral Liquid" and "Nasosinusitis Oral Liquid" are on the market. And we developed 1 hospital preparation "Biyanshu Oral Liquid". We have a first-class TCM diagnosis and treatment team. We treat patients with acute vestibular vertigo and other types of vertigo in China by needle scalpel, which had significant curative effect. Acupuncture and moxibustion are also used to treat refractory tinnitus, deafness, facial paralysis, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis. Thumb-tack needle is adopted for vocal diseases, acute and chronic pharyngitis, allergic rhinitis, rhinitis.

Clinical practice of idiopathic rhinodynia (frontal sinus with inflammatory headache)

We treat patients with integrative medicine and receive good curative effect. We have unique advantages especially in the treatment of refractory rhinosinusitis, allergic rhinitis, tinnitus and deafness, vertigo, voice diseases. In China, we firstly carried out the clinical practice of idiopathic rhinodynia and took the lead in Southwest China in the treatment of chronic sinusitis through balloon sinuplasty TM system, voice training. Significant curative effect are also received in hearing recovery through tympanitis surgery, skull base surgery under nasal endoscope, plasma multiplanar surgery for snoring, head and neck tumor.

In recent five years, we have made great progress in scientific research. More than 600 papers have been published. With a history of 47 years, our department has made remarkable achievements and is still advancing while inheriting the essence of TCM.
